You Are A Child of God; A Child of the King! (II Corinthians 5:14-21)
VERSE: II Corinthians 5:14-21, For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15,And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 16,Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17,Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18,And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19,To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20,Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21,For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
ILLUSTRATION: Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, recently offered WGN Chicago Radio sports-talk host David Kaplan $50,000 to change his name legally to "Dallas Maverick." When Kaplan politely declined, Cuban sweetened the offer. Cuban would pay Kaplan $100,000 and donate $100,000 to Kaplan's favorite charity if he took the name for one year. After some soul-searching, and being bombarded by e-mails from listeners who said he was crazy to turn down the money, Kaplan held firm and told Cuban no. Kaplan explained: "I'd be saying I'd do anything for money, and that bothers me. My name is my birthright. I'd like to preserve my integrity and credibility." "Christian" is the birthright of every follower of Jesus Christ. We have a responsibility to live every day in a way that brings honor to that name. Our identity is not in what we do but in Who we belong to. If you try to be everything to everybody, you will end up being nothing to anybody.
HARSH REALITY: Sometimes people dislike themselves. They may resent the way God made them. They may want to be something they aren’t, or to change something about themselves. What really matters is what God says, because you truly are whoever and whatever He says you are. Satan seeks to ruin your testimony and hide your godly identity. He desires to keep you hid and unnoticed to prevent you from being a light shining in darkness. You must never allow sin, Satan, or society to conceal your Christianity.
POINT TO PONDER: As a Christian, your identity is not in what you do but in Who you belong to. You are child of God; you are a beneficiary to His kingdom. Apart from God, you have no identity and are but another nine-digit number in this world. But with God, you are a child of the King. You have a purpose and a plan in this life. Regardless of what collapses or crashes in your life, if you have trusted Christ as your Saviour, you are a son or daughter of God. Worldly things, like the seasons, will always can change, but you will always be one of God's own.
GAME PLAN: More than you want to see earthly success this year, choose to please and to live for God. Your purpose and identity are found in being God's child. Build your relationship with Him, and live to glorify Him in all that you do. The moment you trusted Christ you became Christ's representatives to the world. You must strive to live so that others can clearly see your Christian identity. Each day welcomes another opportunity to share your faith with a classmate, co-worker, or to encourage a friend. By consistent godly living you can clearly represent Christ to the people around you. Being a Christian is the greatest privilege of your lives, so unashamedly represent Christ so that others can clearly see your identity.
PRAYER: Father in Heaven, I want to thank You for loving me, for wanting to have a personal relationship with me, and for calling me Your child. I no longer want to live by the lies of the devil, but to live abundantly because You love flows through my life. Help me to live to glorify You so that others can see You in me. In Jesus name, AMEN!
