How to Become A Christian
Mankind’s greatest need and most important decision is concerning what they will do with Jesus Christ. Over the ages, mankind has been asking this question, “Am I going to Heaven? How can I know 100% that I’m going to Heaven?”
It is important to know that you're not here by accident. Jesus loves you. He has great plans for your life. He wants you to have a personal relationship with Him. There is just one thing that separates you from God. That one thing is sin.
1. Man is a sinner.
Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” God says that even our good deeds are unclean in His sight. Our good deeds can never pay the price for our sin. You must realize first that everyone is less perfect than a holy God. We are all sinners and unable to save ourselves. People tend to divide themselves into groups - good people and bad people. But God says that every person that has ever lived is a sinner, and any sin separates us from God. We are all guilty of sin. That is why Jesus had to shed His Blood for us and die; so He could pay our sin debt. He suffered for us. He took our sin upon Him. The wages of sin is death. They nailed him to the cross. And when they did this all sins were nailed to the cross. He took our sins upon Him. According to man's rules people should be punished or rewarded according to how good they are and it might be hard for you to understand how Jesus could love you when other people don't seem to. But I have great news for you! Jesus DOES love you! More than you can ever imagine! And there's nothing you can do to make him stop! Are you thinking that you should make things right in your life before you come to Jesus? Many people feel that way, but that's not what God says!
2. There is a price for our sin ― eternal death in Hell.
Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Salvation is only by God’s grace. Grace means unmerited favor or undeserved mercy. A gift is not earned or paid for or it would not be a gift. Romans 4:5, “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” The result and penalty of sin is death, which means separation from God forever. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Because we have sinned, we all deserve to be separated from God forever. God hates sin because it separates us from Him but He loves us, the sinner. Heaven is a perfect place; therefore, no sin can enter there. Man must be perfect to gain entrance. Revelation 21:27, “And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” There is absolutely nothing that man can do to obtain the perfection God requires for Heaven. If a person does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ they will spend a conscious eternity in the Lake of Fire away from the presence of God. Every religion, except for Biblical Christianity, teaches that you can be saved by your own merit by doing good acts such as living a good life and making the world around them better. These are all noble and worthy of applause but in no way measure with God’s requirement for entrance into Heaven. The Bible says no one can be right in the eyes of God by doing good works (Romans 3:20, 23). For you to come to God you have to get rid of your sin problem. But God says that you can't make yourself right with God by being a better person. God wants to save you JUST BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU! God has a standard of ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. If God didn’t lower His standard for His Son, what makes you think He will for us? God didn’t allow this because He was a good guy. It was because He met the requirement for being perfect. Jesus is RIGHTEOUS and only the righteous will inherit Heaven. Unfortunately, millions of people today are walking around thinking they're going to Heaven by what they think is a good life. They're in for a BIG SHOCK because it’s not enough. One must realize that the Biblical standard to go to Heaven is that you must be perfect. Totally sinless, or righteous as the Bible calls it. Since no one is perfect mankind’s only solution is Jesus Christ. This is why we need Jesus Christ. While Christ was on this earth, He lived a totally sinless/perfect life. He never sinned because HE was God. He died on the cross and rose from the dead. God allowed Him back into heaven. It is only because Jesus Christ is perfect that when we believe HIM and accept what HE did for us on the cross He cleanses us from all our sins. It’s His righteousness that allows us to go the Heaven (Titus 3:5, Ephesians 2:8-9). This is why we need HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. If you reject HIM - HE WILL REJECT YOU! If you humbly receive HIM - You will live with HIM in HEAVEN. Not only did Jesus Christ takes our sins upon the cross, it enabled Christ to give us His righteousness. Romans 6:23 Romans 5:12 II Thessalonians 1:8 Revelation 20:15 Revelation 21:8, Romans 5:8 John 3:16, I Timothy 1:15 I Peter 1:18-19
3. Jesus paid that price by dying on the cross and shedding His blood.
Christ made a complete payment for all sin and offers His righteousness to us. II Corinthians 5:21, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” We have seen that we are all sinners and that the penalty of sin is eternal separation from God. We have also seen that God loves us and offers us the gift of eternal life. He requires only our belief, our trust in that payment. How could a holy God give eternal life to sinners? Only through His Son who died on the cross to make a full payment for all sin. By grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ we are saved. Salvation is NOT found in a religion or good works, but in a person... The LORD JESUS CHRIST! Romans 5:8; Titus 3:5 John 11:25 John 6:40 Mark 1:15 Acts 26:18, Romans 10:13 I Corinthians 3:11, Galatians 3:26. It's Gods grace that allows you to come to Him - not your efforts to "clean up your life" or work your way to Heaven. You can't earn it. It's a free gift. Ephesians 2:8-9. For you to come to God, your sin must be paid for. God's gift to you is His Son, Jesus, who paid the debt for you. (Romans 6:23) Jesus paid the price for your sin and mine by giving His life on Calvary's cross. God brought Jesus back from the dead and paved the way for you to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus. All that's left for you to do is to accept the gift that Jesus is holding out for you right now. (Romans 10:9-10) The Bible says that if I put my complete trust in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, believing that his death, burial, and resurrection pays the complete penalty for my sin, then God gives me eternal life. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This verse does not say anything about promising God good works in order to be saved. It doesn’t mention joining a church, being baptized or even quitting all your sinning. The word believe means to trust, depend, or rely upon. Will you place your trust in Jesus Christ to save your soul? To trust Him means to rely totally on Him, not on your own good works. Will you do this right now?
4. FINAL: Sinner's Prayer
If you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, then you can know you have eternal life. God has promised this in His Word. God says that if you believe in His son, Jesus, you can live forever with Him in glory. (John 3:16) With this promise, according to the Scriptures, we have complete assurance of eternal life. I John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” John 10:28, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” Titus 1:2, eternal life is guaranteed by God: “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.” Here is how you call upon the Lord for salvation. Do you admit that you are a GUILTY sinner under the condemnation of God's LAW, deserving of Hellfire? Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God (God in the flesh) who died upon the cross, sacrificing His precious blood to pay for your sins? All you need to do to be saved is to BELIEVE upon the Lord Jesus Christ. You can pray this kind of prayer as a sinner's as did the publican in Luke 18:13..."And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner." Are you ready to accept the gift of eternal life that Jesus is offering you right now? If it is your sincere desire to ask Jesus to come into your heart as your personal Lord and Saviour, then talk to God from your heart. "Lord Jesus, I know and admit that I am a sinner deserving of Hell and I do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe You died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in Heaven for me. Please forgive me of my sins and take me to Heaven when I die. I now believe upon You alone, apart from all works and religion, as my personal Saviour. Jesus, come into my life, take control of my life, forgive my sins and save me. I am now placing my trust in You alone for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life. Thank you. Amen." Just as you were born physically to your parents, you were born spiritually into the Family of God when you believed on Jesus! (John 3:3). Please understand that we are not saved because we pray a prayer; but because we believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ. It is certainly appropriate to ask the Lord in prayer to forgive and save us, but it is our faith which prompted us to pray the prayer. You could just as easily believe in your heart upon the Lord to be saved, and not pray at all. Salvation is of the heart, as we read in Romans 10:10, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness..." You do NOT have to be baptized or doing anything to go to Heaven other than trust upon the Lord as your Saviour. Romans 4:5 proclaims..."But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." What a wonderful Saviour! If you have trusted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, please let us know. We want to rejoice in what God has done in your life and help you to grow spiritually. If you have questions or concerns you would like help with, please let us know. We're here to help you understand the love that Jesus is offering you for free, no matter who or where you are.
